Dig Deeper notes from Sunday 19th April service:
Summary
What does it mean to be born into God’s family through baptism?
At its heart is the truth that we belong to God not because of what we do, but because of His grace. Grace is God’s undeserved gift, shown through Jesus, which brings forgiveness, acceptance, freedom, and the assurance that God is always with us. Before anything else, grace comes first,t is the foundation of our identity as God’s children.
Baptism is a sign of that belonging, but it also brings us into a wider family. the church. Faith is not meant to be lived alone; it is nurtured in community, where we support, encourage, and grow alongside one another across generations.
Finally, baptism is not the end of the journey but the beginning. It marks the start of a new life with Jesus, where we continue to grow in faith through prayer, Scripture, and relationship with God and others. This journey has its challenges, but God’s grace remains constant. We are welcomed into His family by grace, we grow in that family through community, and we continue in it for a lifetime.
Questions to pause for reflection/group discussion:
1. What does it mean to you that we are accepted by God through grace, not effort?
2. How has (or could) community help you grow in your faith?
3. Why do you think baptism is a beginning rather than an end?
4. What might be your next step in your journey with Jesus?
A Short Prayer
Father, we thank you that you invite us into your family.
Thank you that it is not something we earn, but something freely given. Help us to grow in our faith, to support one another in community,
and to walk daily with you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
