Children & Families

There is something going on for everyone at the 10:30am Sunday morning service at St John’s!

Every month, on the first Sunday, we all start together in the service. Then children aged 3-11 have a special gathering in the Upper Lounge. If you have children under 3, we offer a self-service crèche. On the other Sundays, we begin together in the main service and later divide into age-appropriate groups!

Our dedicated Kids team at St John's, led by Kat (Children and Families Minister), plans, prepares and leads these groups. These amazing volunteers, who have undergone DBS checks, share a common passion for nurturing children's faith and helping them grow in their knowledge of God.

Little Lambs

For those from birth until the start of Pre-School. Little Lambs takes place in the church lounge on the left. These sessions are made up of time to play, a story and a craft. We do ask that you stay with your child for this session, but we have a screen showing the service.

Stepping Stones

For children in Pre-School and Reception. Stepping Stones happens in the upstairs lounge where children engage with Bible stories through play, story-telling, crafts, games and songs.

Climbers

For children in school years 1-3. Climbers takes place in the Church Hall. We meet in the corridor between the main church and the lounge ready to walk to the hall together. Once there we chat, play games, explore a Bible story, do a craft, and have a snack.

Explorers

For children in school years 4-6. Explorers takes place in the Church Hall. We meet in the corridor between the main church and the lounge ready to walk to the hall together. Once there we chat, play games,  pray, explore a Bible story and then discuss how it can relate to our lives.

Pathfinders

For young people in secondary school. Pathfinders have a dedicated meeting place in the Albert Jones Hall in the churchyard.

During the Week

Year 5-8 Small Group

This group meets on a Thursday evening (6:45-7:45pm) in the Church Lounge, and is for those who are interested in exploring their faith further. Each week we read the Bible and reflect on what it means for us today, as well as taking time to chat, play games and eat snacks. All children in school years 5-8 are welcome to come along.

Deanery School Admissions

Would all parents please remember to register your child each Sunday.  Whenever Sunday School is on, the leaders keep registers of children attending these groups. Please note that the Vicar and Churchwardens use these registers when they complete the “faith” section of the school forms. If you have any questions, please speak to the Vicar or a Churchwarden. It is important that parents are attending church with their children for the admission process.
